Sir,

Regarding the outrageous statement made by Hon MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage about the payment of taxes

On 31 Aug 2022 Mr. Mahindananda Aluthgamage delivered a speech about the payment of taxes. He accused a number of prominent businessmen in Sri Lanka are not paying tax.

First of all, it must be said that this is an outrageous statement that was made covering  under the parliamentary privilege. Because if the tax system is irregular, it is not the businessmen or the public that should be remedied, but the parliamentarians who make the law.

There is principle, that the tax policy of a country should be implemented in such a way as to take the nectar without crushing the flower. Mr.Ravi Karunanayake is the only person in recent history who has implemented the fiscal policy in a manner of business-friendly

The facts being so, without maliciously accusing the Business community, a capable person who can execute the tax policy should be appointed as the finance minister.

Colombo Business club further emphasizes that it is very important to appoint someone who has a thorough knowledge of theory, practical mass economy, and the global trends

Yours sincerely
R. M. Herath
